What is an Electronic Score:
An electronic score refers to a digital file containing the full musical notation and composition that competitors will be performing from during the competition. Rather than using traditional printed sheets of music, an electronic score is a PDF or other electronic document file displaying all the notes, rhythms, expressions, and musical markings on a screen or tablet device.
For performances of existing composed works or a competitor's own arranged/composed piece, an electronic score file is required to be submitted in advance. This allows the judges to reference the exact notation the performer will play from. The electronic format provides clarity, consistency, and ease of distribution compared to physical sheet music.
However, if a competitor is featuring an improvised, unscored performance with no pre-written notation, then an electronic score file is not needed. Electronic scores are specifically for performances that will precisely follow notated music during the competition. Their digital format ensures the judges can accurately assess adherence to the composition.
